Lamonte Bryant Tyler, born August 1972, in Baltimore, Maryland graduated high school June 1990. Two weeks after graduation, joined the US Army where I committed myself to four years. During that time, I experienced combat twice (Operation Desert Storm and Black Hawk Down). I also wrestled 2 years for the Fort Bragg post wrestling team. I departed the Army as a decorated combat veteran. One year after the military I attended college for 6 years and during that time, I receive 5 degrees (AA, BA, MA, MIS, and MLS). While in college, I also played football for 2 years. After injuring my knee, I thought that would be it for my when it came to contact sports. February 2000, I began training in Muay Thai Kickboxing, Vale Tudo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I am currently a Brown belt under Greg Thompson, the head of Team ROC, and the Legendary Royce Gracie. Thanks to Greg Thompson, I am also a Level III Modern Army Combative Instructor. January 2004, I began training in Judo. Three years later, I received my black belt under Tim Redden of the Charlottesville Judo Academy which made me his 1st student to go from white to black belt and also his fastest promoted student. I received my 1st degree black belt in Hapkido in May 2008. From December 2003 - June 2007, I ran a successful BJJ academy where I helped a lot of promising BJJ students with their foundation in the sport. I also spent 2 years as an assistant Judo instructor.
